11. Being sick at Puerto Escondido (10/17-10/20/07)

For the past 3 nights I have woken up fully drenched in the morning. This dampness has taken a toll on my immune system and I have become very sick. It is somewhat depressing staying in Puerto Escondido because I can see that everyone else is having a good time except for me who is stuck sleeping all day inside my tent at a beach front hostile.

I am starting to think that maybe the Monte Alban gods have cursed me for trespassing in their temples. The first night it rained again!grrr The second night (a Monday) turned out to be the local party night for the bar next door which the hostile guy forgot to mention! grrrrr The third night was slightly better because I met some Aussies at my hostile during the day and hung out with them later that night. I was feeling slighly better and I (very regrettably the next day) had a few beers with them. It was fun talking with them because I studied abroad in Australia for 6 months. With a lot of sarcasm, I made a joke about them being light weight drinkers for Aussies. I think they took it to heart because in rapid succession they each downed about 7 beers.

The next day I woke up very sick. I decided that it was time for drugs. On average I probably take an antibiotic every 5 years so this was something for me. After spending 50 dollars at the local rip-off tourist pharmacy I decided that Puerto Escondido was bad luck and that I needed to drive on to my next destination. After a few painful hours of driving I sprung for a motel.
